1st run
of the night vs. John's Chevelle with a BUILT 454 big block.
His car is mean! Just has a bit of trouble getting it to
hook. I think he ran a best of 12.80 this night. Too bad
for him he only ran a 13.5 this run, so it looked like I
kept up with him pretty good. |
I have no
idea who this guy was, but his car was REALLY loud. Notice
the dual carbs protruding from the hood. While technically
I didn't beat him by the time sheet or because I red lighted...
I did beat him across the line. Gotta count for something
right? It was a terrible race to tune in the car by, as
I couldn't hear mine at all... |
Ahh... this
was a great run indeed. I pulled in line behind a 2000 Camaro
SS (auto.) I had some time before we ran so I asked him
if he wanted to run me. He got out looked over my car and
said sure. BTW - it wasn't his Camaro. I have no idea how
you can mess up driving an automatic, but I totally smoked
this car with my best ever run of 13.87! |
Well, it's
the Camaro again. This time the owner is driving... he waited
on the sidelines for revenge. I was a little over confident
the second run and was really there to learn to drive my
car better. So I changed my take off to not launching with
the NOS. Not a good idea. He had a slighly better reaction
time than me... I ran a 14.06, he ran a 14.12 - I barely
beat him. Good thing the finish line sensor goes by tires
and not bumpers! Ever seen a bumper on a Camaro? Those things
are LOOONG.... |
After running
the much quiter Camaro, I learned that I had a slight pinging
at top end. I left and got more gas with a couple bottles
of Octane Boost. I wanted to see if my car acted okay without
the 75 shot of NOS... and I knew I would probably get beat,
so my buddies told me to smoke it up. I wish I had been
in the closer lane, but this is what we got. I let my car
shift to second and held it about 4 grand. So not too hard
on the motor - just the crappy tires. (The lights are much
brighter in this movie, but you can still make out the neon
under the car... so no, the car is not on fire. It's orange
neon.) |
This run
was against a kid from town that I've run before. I should
have run without the bottle so I wouldn't have beat him
quite so bad. But again I was checking for the pinging noise.
You can really hear my exhaust on this run. There was still
a bit of pinging on top end, so I let off and lost a bit
of time or it might have beat my 13.87 earlier. The pinging
told us it was time to drop the timing down a bit more. |
